March 2020 Featured Plant: Native currants

Minnesota’s five native currant species provide food, cover and habitat for a range of wildlife. Flowers are a high-priority food source for Minnesota’s state bee, the federally endangered rusty patched bumblebee. Fruits are edible. The shrubs are sometimes used in windbreaks.
